I do recall he will NOT despawn from the floor once he appears, but will reducing your curse stop him from appearing next floor, i wonder. If you pick up a cursed item, going from 9 to 10, and he spawns, and you drop it and go to the next floor, would he still appear? Hm. Either because they're cursed by default or they where spawned with a curse on them. I assume you noticed by now, but all cursed items have a blackish particle taint effect on them when they're on the ground, ready to be picked up. (Probably worth noting Cursula sells cursed but cheaper items, and stuff like the Lament Configurum can spawn cursed items.) But as long as you're careful about what you use/pickup or who you buy from, you shouldn't ever gain any curse.
That said, you would have to watch out for those pot things that curse you if you stay in their radius for too long.
